GIPA is proud to have joined the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in celebration of World IP Day Throughout April. This year’s theme “Small Businesses Taking Big Ideas to Market,” is central to GIPA’s strategic focus and at the heart of the many programs targeted at increasing awareness and understanding of intellectual property throughout the state of Georgia.

“Intellectual Property (IP) is critical for the knowledge economy and the future of our country, states Scott Frank, GIPA President and Chair. “Our vision is that Georgia is recognized as a world-leading, collaborative ecosystem for intellectual property creation, protection, and enablement that fuels prosperity and improves the quality of life of all of our Georgia citizens.”

In alignment with this year’s World IP Day theme, this month GIPA co-hosted the Inventor IP Roundtable, held jointly with Venture Atlanta. This free virtual event, entitled: “How IP Can Add Value to Start-Ups” was directed towards solo and joint inventors, entrepreneurs, incubators, accelerators, and the venture community. It addressed topics such as: how to know what IP needs protection, how IP helps potential investors see value, and how to develop a strategy for IP.

GIPA is also proud to have organized the VC IP Roundtable, which is focused on promoting the interests of IP amongst the VC and capital communities in Georgia. Their latest event entitled: “Intellectual Property, VC Investing & Exits: War Stories & Lessons Learned” provided an opportunity for education and networking. A key goal for this initiative is to foster enhanced relationships among all industry players and stakeholders to provide more informed IP protection and investment decisions.

These are just two examples of initiatives that focus on building IP competencies to help individuals materialize their ideas and build future businesses within our state. We are working closely with our IP constituents to support our state’s goal of becoming the Technology Capital of the East Coast, as well as to facilitate the protection of IP in Georgia’s Entertainment, Arts, and Sports sectors.

So, join us in making every day IP day! GIPA offers many unique volunteer opportunities at the intersections of intellectual property, technology, life sciences, healthcare, arts, entertainment, sports, finance & business. Come with us on our journey towards empowering intellectual property to advance society. ®
