GIPA Launches First-of-a Kind IP Initiatives

The Georgia Intellectual Property Alliance® is working to transform society by expanding the use of intellectual property to fuel economic prosperity and improve the quality of life of its citizens.

Towards that end, GIPA recently launched several ‘program firsts’.  These initiatives focus on building IP competencies to help individuals materialize their ideas and build their businesses, support our state’s goal to become the Technology Capital of the East Coast, and facilitate the use of IP in Georgia’s Entertainment, Arts, and Sports sectors.

As of 2021, GIPA is entering its third year as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.  “Like others, we have been impacted by the challenges of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, yet our dynamic and committed organization has adapted accordingly” states Corrine Sukiennik, GIPA’s Executive Director.  “During these challenging times, we were able to grow the organization and expand the knowledge of and participation in IP throughout the state.”

Creation of the GIPA Entertainment, Arts and Sports IP Committee (EAS)

This team is focused on meeting the diverse IP needs for those involved in the creative arts, digital media, music, and sports, and to support their role in our Georgia economy. The first virtual EAS IP roundtable is set for February 11, 2021.

Launch of our first ever GIPA Inventor IP Roundtable

Directed towards solo and joint inventors, entrepreneurs, incubators, accelerators, and small businesses who would benefit from learning how to protect one’s ideas with intellectual property and how to develop IP strategies to protect one’s business and brand.

Creation of the GIPA Venture Capital IP Roundtable

Focused on promoting the interests of IP among the VC and investing communities in Georgia.

Virtual Southeastern IP Job Fair

Conducted GIPA’s first virtual IP job fair (and the 16th job fair itself) connecting potential employers with the brightest new members of the IP community and enabling students to access the best IP employment opportunities in the country.

Building relationships with our ecosystem, partners, constituents and community

The GIPA IP journey continues in 2021 and it will be furthering the impact of IP in our state through the three pillars supporting our mission and vision.  Our pillars of increased IP awareness and education, fostering IP ecosystem collaboration, and increasing IP diversity and inclusion are the foundations that will continue to guide our leadership and our ‘all-volunteer’ members.

Recently, seventy-five of GIPA’s diverse board members participated in working sessions during a virtual retreat developing long range strategic initiatives.  Ideas were synthesized from our leadership, board, and entire GIPA membership.

The outcome:  we are now poised to take GIPA to the next level by supporting the creation, protection, and enablement of IP in a wide range of industries, with a diverse array of partners, people, and programs.

Some of our goals for the next five years include:

    • Cultivating new and strengthening existing relationships with diverse IP ecosystem partners.

    • Driving Georgia’s recognition as a leading incubator for educated, experienced, and effective intellectual property talent

    • Demonstrating leadership in the State to National Growth in Innovation

    • Simply and visibly, demonstrating the beneficial links between IP and a better society, especially for Georgians

GIPA’s Executive Director invites you to join us on our journey. . .

“It’s been a tremendous year and I’m proud of the work GIPA is doing to meet the IP challenges of today.  More importantly, I’m enthusiastic about the great plans and work before us that will take GIPA to even greater heights in 2021 and beyond.

Thank you to the many individuals, partners, and alliances that have contributed their ideas, talents, and time to develop and support GIPA.  We especially thank our sponsors, program leads, and all our dedicated volunteers.

I hope you will contact me or any of our members with your ideas, your needs, and your support.  Join us on our journey towards empowering intellectual property to advance society.®
