GIPA’s first-ever IP Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service was instituted for promising individuals making contributions having a lasting impact on society. The first Award recipient is James H. “Jim” Johnson Jr. of Eversheds Sutherland. GIPA also proudly recognized three professionals for The IP Community Service Award. These outstanding individuals include Noah Graubart, Fish & Richardson; Matthew Howell, Alston & Bird; and Gail Podolsky, Carlton Fields.

Intellectual property leaders today launched the US IP Alliance, an organisation geared towards uniting IP groups, creators and owners in a mission to educate the general public across 50 states on the value of patents, trademarks, copyright and other forms of IP.

As we face a truly unprecedented situation with the global pandemic, the Georgia Intellectual Property Alliance (GIPA) wanted to reach out and update you on how we are approaching the situation.

We believe that we are uniquely positioned to provide the leadership, resources, and advocacy needed to empower Georgia creators, protectors, and enablers to advance society. As an organization, GIPA can rally the resources needed to help move the ideas of creators into the production facilities of manufacturers in order to deliver solutions to promote the economic and social well-being of every citizen of Georgia. This is why GIPA was formed – for this time and for this purpose.

On October 17, 2019, approximately 300 people in the Georgia community came together in the Egyptian Ballroom of the Fox Theater to celebrate the amazing work that hundreds of people are doing to help the state bring intellectual property awareness, education, collaboration, and impact to its citizens.

The Georgia Intellectual Property Alliance Board Strategic Retreat took place on November 7, 2019. It was a futuristic boost to have so many engaged leaders intent on improving the benefits from IP to their Georgia ecosystem constituents, programs, and perspectives.

The Georgia Intellectual Property Alliance held its 6th Annual Intellectual Property Think Tank in December at the offices of Smith, Gambrell and Russell, LLP. This year’s theme focused on: “Dimensioning the Intellectual Property Needs of the State of Georgia”. Over 30 intellectual property thought leaders representing Georgia’s IP Ecosystem participated in event, including Corporations, Government, Universities, Entrepreneurs, Private Law Practices and IP Service Providers.

The Georgia Intellectual Property Alliance thanks Governor Brian Kemp for his recent IP Proclamation for IP Month in Georgia. October 2019 represents the second consecutive year in which October was IP Month in Georgia.

Managing Intellectual Property, one of the most respected IP publications in the world, recently named GIPA Chair Scott Frank one of the Top 50 Most Influential People in IP.

The Michelson Institute for Intellectual Property (Michelson IP) is proud to announce a partnership with the Georgia Intellectual Property Alliance (GIPA) designed to enhance intellectual property education and awareness across the Peach State. Georgia currently ranks tenth in the country in patents awarded by the United States Patent Office.

As part of the collaboration, Michelson IP will provide GIPA access to its extensive portfolio of open educational resources – developed to enhance IP education. The organizations will coordinate to incorporate these IP assets into the curricula of select Georgia K-12 schools and educational programs in order to advance the shared goals of fueling innovation and entrepreneurship, driving economic opportunities.
